I would very much like to travel to Caledonia!

While The Romans now long gone, and North Britain’s slow history, Caledonia entices me. With its cool grey weather and amazing bodies of water and cliffs, this area awakens the romantic in me. This was the feeling our trip began on while visiting Inverness Castle. We then took the walk to The Heathmont Hotel to warm up with some Illy coffee and Scottish whiskey. After staying the night there and relaxing with a dinner of venison, roasted potatoes, and peach cobbler, we woke to room service bringing us a hearty Scottish breakfast consisting of delicious sausage accompanied with onion and potato hash and a delectable Capaccino. Christening our journey on Friday we began driving in a black Land Rover, me wearing a white fisherman’s sweater, wool riding pants & wellies, we soon discovered and explored the local ancient towns and pubs. Enjoying the different pace and atmospheric surroundings was enlivening. Perhaps even having a past life remembrance. The following day although I am not the most prolific golfer, we did enjoy moving the dented ball around with the sticks for an afternoon of exercise & camaraderie. I did not win because the beautiful landscape continued to increase my golf handi-cap. Courageously we scheduled & thoroughly enjoyed horseback riding in the Scottish Highlands, or as Prince Harry corrected Horse riding (where else would you sit) with the gorgeous backdrop of Caledonia. We rode over bridges and through great fields of wildflowers & local Fawna. For the following days, we incorporated an overnight stay in Portree which led to our journey to LochCarron and then continued on through the beautiful island scenery where we arrived at Dunvegan Castle to explore and undercover its history. Next, we enjoyed the drive to the imposing and dramatic Quirang mountain range, afterwards taking in the breathtaking views of Kilt Rock, Lealt Falls, and The Old Man of Storr. That evening back in Portree we enjoyed all the local people’s kind company and their stories at dinner. After sleeping on their dreamy feather beds, the next morning, wearing our warm clothes and wellies, we began the excursion to the extraordinary Fairy Pools at Isle of Skye of which we find so magical. Farther along we pass through Sligachan, then Sconser stopping to enjoy lunch in Broadford while we admire the wildlife of seals dancing, otters, and even killer whales. The National Museum of Scotland‘s exhibits also beckoned us to stop and explore its bistro, & amazing roof observation deck where we perused the momentary happenings all over Edinburgh and then we visited The Edinburgh Castle, of course. The following day lastly, we attended a true game of English Football at The Celtic Park and then began our journey home to our familiar hearth, bed & bath. I truly hope this armchair theatre of Caledonia has inspired you!
